1. Client Introduction

This is a newly created French company that aims to bring to market its first disruptive, exceptional object entirely designed and manufactured in France, respecting exceptional manufacturing processes that combine Design and rare artisanal craftsmanship.

  • Sector: Luxury and Games
  • Typology: Start-up

2. Client Needs

  • Context: It is in the framework of the 1st edition of the ART DE VIVRE A LA FRANCAISE exhibition, which takes place in New York on May 2 & 3, 2024 at the Residence of France. The ART DE VIVRE A LA FRANCAISE exhibition offers French companies in the furniture & decoration sectors the opportunity to showcase their exclusive products to local buyers & prescribers. This exhibition is dedicated to premium, high-end & luxury brands, allowing them to demonstrate their know-how in a valuable & unique setting.
  • Challenges and Issues: The start-up needed to demonstrate the interest in its product to a clientele eager for new, exceptional products with innovative design.
  • Objectives: The first objective is to create a functional prototype / demonstrator of their BBR in a world of exceptional, disruptive objects, offering truly customized options through the choice of materials, textures, and leather colors that can be created in a totally exclusive way, making each object a unique piece. The second objective of this POC is to integrate, from its design, the series constraints, and thus reduce its "time to market" by integrating as many series constraints (materials, process) as possible.
  • Selection Criteria: After analyzing the possibilities of different companies, we were chosen to develop and industrialize their BBR. This choice is based on the following expertise:

Business Expertise: how to choose the right product/process combinations to meet the project's needs

Development Expertise: how to choose a partner capable of working in an agile design environment with the goal of always offering solutions at the lowest possible CAPEX

Perceived Quality Expertise: the ability to understand and execute the codes of luxury markets. Thanks to the Chastagner method, the start-up not only obtained a POC corresponding to its needs, integrating elements of the series with a future vision of its industrialization but also, a vision of the projected manufacturing costs through its "Design to Cost" approach.

  • Reasons for the Choice: With a solid reputation in developing prototypes that meet precise needs and thanks to our experience in the ultra-high-end product sector, as well as our internal/external sourcing skills, Chastagner was selected for the development and realization of this POC.

4. Our Intervention

  • Project Steps:
    • Analysis and Design: In-depth understanding of the client's technical and functional needs, and proposal to transcribe their CDC and provide a projected bill of materials.
    • Development and Implementation: Incremental agile development of a functional prototype that closely meets the client's needs.
    • Testing, Validation, and MAP: Management and execution of tests to validate the conformity of the BBR with the client's specifications for the prototype. Validation with the client's Technical and Marketing teams.
  • Support: Transparent development with the Client and implementation of an incremental agile development philosophy to allow us to quickly integrate project requirements. Implementation of a Design to Cost approach to manage the project's economic projections.
    • Communication and Collaboration: Weekly and/or daily work sessions between the company's teams and Chastagner to adjust and iterate, and make decisions regarding technical, economic, and scheduling issues.
    • Training and Support: Training the team to use the prototype for live presentations and demonstrations to potential clients.

5. Results

  • Deadlines, costs, and initial CDC met: Project delivered in 24 weeks, respecting the client's critical timeline.
  • Results Achieved:
    • Improvements: The functional prototype demonstrated the potential of the UNPRECEDENTED product innovation. The first BABY with monolithic legs, a world first.

6. Conclusion

  • Lessons Learned: The flexibility implemented during development, supported by Chastagner's technical skills and regular exchanges with our partner, allowed us to be very fast in development. Working in an "agile, incremental, iterative" way is the key to success.
  • Future Prospects: Continued collaboration for the development of the final version and the industrialization of the product and future innovation projects.
